James R. Hashim, D.M.D., is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. He then went on to complete a 2-year residency at the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry, receiving his Periodontal certificate as a specialist in Periodontology.

After 5 years of additional study and documentation, he became a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.  This is the highest recognition offered in periodontics, an honor shared by few periodontists in the country.  In fact, Drs. Hashim and Williams are the only periodontists in Berkshire County to have attained Diplomate status.

Board Certification for Diplomate requires:

A. Comprehensive oral and written examinations covering all phases of periodontal disease and its treatment, including dental implants.

B. Presentation of detailed reports on a broad range of actual treatments personally provided by the periodontist.

Dr. Hashim is a member of:

  • The American Dental Association
  • The Massachusetts Dental Society, (President of the Berkshire District 1988-1989)
  • The American Academy of Periodontology
  • The Massachusetts Periodontal Society
  • The International Congress of Oral Implantologists
Dr. Hashim is very interested in education and the advancement of periodontics and dental implantology.  He welcomes opportunities to speak to civic groups and lectures actively at the Berkshire Medical Center Dental Clinic, local dental meetings and dental hygiene audiences.  He has also written several professional articles, including a paper about juvenile periodontitis published in the Journal of the Western Society of Periodontology.

Dr. Hashim regularly attends continuing educational courses throughout the year, earning continuing education credits far beyond those required by the state.
